In 2005, someone from Shop.org had a “eureka” moment. They saw the success Black Friday was for retail stores and wanted to create a shopping holiday of their own. And so, “Cyber Monday” was born.
Since then, online shopping has grown drastically. Online sales have risen by double-digit percentages every holiday season, and this year over half of shoppers are expected some of their holiday shopping online.
Now, with the eve of Black Friday almost upon us, I can envision my American brethren from the south asking “Who’s down to camp out in front of Wal-Mart Thursday night?”. Lines upon lines will be chalk full of eager consumers willing to wait outside in the cold to get their hands on that elusive $7.99 waffle maker.
But why wait outside during the busiest shopping week of the year when all you need to do is order it online? Huge retail stores like Best Buy, K-Mart and GAP are all partaking in online Black Friday sales. It’s trends like these that make me believe it’s only a matter of time before eCommerce becomes the method of choice for eager holiday shoppers.
