The article I chose is from CNNmoney, that was published on October 2nd, 2014: http://money.cnn.com/2014/10/02/smallbusiness/open-carry-guns-restaurants/index.html?iid=SF_SB_Lead
Lauren Boebart the owner of the restaurant Shooters Grill in Riffle, US, now permits customers and employees to carry guns around in public of the restaurants. After the incident that a man died behind her grill restaurant last year. People who support this idea started carrying around guns in public, going into large stores like Target and Starbucks. However, these two companies with some others, eg. Chipotle, Sonic, Chili’s, told their customers to leave their guns at home.
This article interests me because work ethics really comes into play here. Even though US legalised civilians with license to own a gun, it is illegal to be shown in public. However, the restaurant even encourages them to bring their gun by giving them a 10% discount on food if they are armed. I even saw comments from their restaurants with customers commenting on how wielding a gun has nothing to do with eating there, and it the food that counts. They even have a group that supports the ideal of carrying guns around in public.
In my opinion, wielding a gun does provide you with self protection, however some civilians might take advantage of this opportunity, and have other motives. Especially with so many people armed in a restaurant, it might not be a great idea to have guns easily accessible so close to people. I don’t think that US is ready for people to openly carry guns around especially with so many previous incidents.
