After a recession hit Olympics, advertisement revenue wasn’t as Rogers and CTV had hoped as they are looking for London 2012Summer Olympics to break even. Despite this fact, CTV Inc. and Rogers Communications Inc. are trying to continue their rights through to the 1014 Sochi Winter Olympics and the 2016 Janeiro Summer Olympics. However, this combination will prove to become interesting as BCE Inc. has bought out CTV Inc. This is very interesting as this will partner up BCE’s TSN network with Roger’s Sportnet networks AS WELL AS the two largest mobile phone companies in the country; Bell and Rogers. However, the rights aren’t going to be handed over easily. After losing the rights, CBC will be the main threat to the Rogers, CTV partnership deal. Then again, CBC’s coverage does not compare against the partnership unless CBC itself looks for a partner, most likely in Global Television Network. Personally, I don’t care who wins as long as I can see Canada represent us internationally!

As a follow up to my last blog, it seems that not only are Canadian employers hesitant to hire foreign employees, but Canadian companies are losing the countries top business women to foreign companies! Former Canada Post CEO Moya Greene states , “women are so successful at different levels” in Canadian business, she says “they are not seen and their shoulder is not tapped to be the leader of the organization.” How can we afford to lose these great business women to other countries? We are not willing to fight for them to stay in the country, unlike our neighbours in the south, “U.S. companies in particular are so proactive about hiring and promoting women that some Canadian business chiefs complain that it is difficult to compete for senior female executives with global experience”
So not only are we not hiring foreign employees, but we’re losing our top business women to foreign employers, Whats wrong with the corporations in Canada!?

As the country exits the recession, the unemployment rate has finally started to decrease; for those who got their license in Canada. Immigrants who come to Canada seeking employment and a better life for their families are having a hard time reaching their dream even though they have the education and license. The statistics are staggering and leave one wondering if Canada really is as multicultural as we advertise.
Alberta has the lowest unemployment rate in Canada at just 2.9 percent for university graduates that are Canadian raised. This number increases to 11.5 percent for university educated immigrants. In Toronto, the city which receives approx. 45 percent of the countries immigrants, 14 percent of university educated immigrants are unemployed compared to only 3.3 percent for university educated Canadian born residents. Finally, Quebec is the worst offender with an astounding rate of 20 percent of university educated immigrants unemployed!
Why are all these educated people unemployed in our great country? Many employers, who are just starting to hire again after two years, are wary to hire candidates with unknown, foreign licenses. Many companies also have no idea on how to treat foreign training. Lets get our act together Canada!

“It’s not necessary to have two pilots on every flight, Michael O’Leary said in a recent interview.” The CEO of the European Airline Ryanair has always been infamous for his cost reducing ideas, but now he needs to stop! It is one thing to charge passengers extra for meals and washroom use, but to remove a pilot from the plane is ridiculous! This idea is far too risky to put into practice as when you are hundreds of kilometres above the ground, far too many things can go arise. Although rare, planes are still crashing due to freak accidents with two pilots aboard; imagine how many could occur with only one pilot. Michael O’Leary wants to train flight attendants to handle the plane in emergency situations, a thought I believe lacks common sense. If a professional pilot cannot handle a emergency situation, can the passengers really trust a flight attendant? Also, if the flight attendant CAN fly a plane well enough to save all the passengers, why doesn’t the person just become a pilot and make more money? Learn to save money without risking lifes Mr. O’Leary.

With Iphones and blackberries being the staple in the mobile culture, Windows phone interface was shoved aside for good reasons. The program did not appeal to users and was frankly an embarrassment to the company. This failure has forced Windows to re think their entire mobile OS if they wanted to stay as a competitor in mobile market. With the anticipated release of the Windows 7 mobile OS, reviews are happy to say that Windows is back in the game! The new OS is “clean, fresh, and well suited to a phone’s display.” The phone has incorporated many other Windows applications such as Microsoft Office and Xbox Live onto their new phones. The phone also comes with several applications designed for consumers and businesses, allowing the target market to be pretty much anyone. Will this new OS become the new staple in the mobile phone market? Probably not, but it will definitely be the flotation device to keep it from sinking into oblivious.
