In this assignment, we are supposed to choose a relatively complex term that is used within a certain discipline and explain it in three different writing strategies, which include parenthetical definition, sentence definition, and an expanded definition which includes at least four expansion strategies, at least one visual with work cited in MLA or APA. I chose the word Mircroagression which is often used in social justice topics, as my previous degree is relevant to this discipline, I feel comfortable explaining it in a simple concise way and presenting it with examples and visual components.

- Peer Review of Definition:
I partnered with my teammate Lucy for this assignment. The purpose of this assignment is to start to learn how to give constructive feedback for others to edit their work. Both strengths and weaknesses were discussed with detailed explanations. As Lucy’s previous degree was in Hospitality Management, she chose the word “The Back of House”, with her detailed explanation and accurate graph illustration, I was able to understand its real meaning and successfully provide some constructive feedback to facilitate understanding.

- Memo to Evan Crisp:
One of the important writing skills in ENG 301 is writing-with-YOU-attitude in a professional way. This memo is to student Evan Crisp to provide some recommendations for his writing. Evan’s writing is unprofessional, his expression were informal, and the tone is passive. Accordingly, a list of detailed suggestions was presented.

- Complaint letter and Response letter:
This is also a practice of writing-with-YOU-attitude. Students are required to write a complaint letter and a response letter with a neutral statement and provide positive closing. I wrote the letter based on my recent experience with Amazon that I received a damaged item that also does not fit the description provided on the website. Accordingly, I wrote the response letter from the perspective of customer service staff from Amazon.

- Peer Review of a Formal Report:
In this assignment, students are tasked with peer reviewing a teammate’s formal report. I teamed up with Carol, while reading her work I was able to identify her weakness and also recognize her strengths, I really liked her tone which also made me reflect on mine. I also enjoyed reading her report as I am interested in the topic.

- Formal Report:
After finishing the proposal, survey design, survey distribution, and collection, a final formal report was generated for the potential reader. The time span of writing the whole report was long, but the final report did not take me that much time to finish as followed my writing plan. As I am more used to writing research essays, I find writing Formal Report challenging. The survey on gender disparity issues at UBC was distributed to UBC students through several online platforms, 50 responses were received and some of them provided helpful insights. I really enjoyed reading the survey response, also I use the data collected to reckon on my recommendation writing part.
