BIO

Hi everyone,

I am glad to join the ENGL301 DE cohort and cannot wait to e-meet with all of you through our blog!

Let me introduce myself first. My name is Anna Li, my pronoun is she/her. I am currently a third-year computer science student in the Bachelor of Computer Science program. This is my second bachelor’s degree and technically third degree as I did my first bachelor’s degree in English Literature and then got a master’s degree in Adult Education and Community Development from the University of Toronto, and now I am here with UBC learning about computer science. This is a quite long journey, but I am happy with where I am today. One of the reasons that I chose to join the CS community is that I enjoyed coding a lot, I feel lucky that I have found my passion eventually after all these years of trying other industries!

I have worked for about three years in total in non-for-profits industry and education industry before I got admitted into UBC. I was a community organizer, working with marginalized people in Toronto to advocate for their rights, and creating a community with them together for a better future. I also worked as an ESL and IELTS tutor for international students and new immigrants in a private school. Even though I am about to be a programmer in the future, I have always wanted to integrate what I have learned in my previous degrees and work experience with computer science, I am still trying to bridge the world between the arts and science fields. However, as I am taking more computer science courses I grew more interested in artificial intelligent design and game development, I hope in the future I can find a way to combine my interests and knowledge and contribute to both arts and science fields.

Best,
Anna
