Reply to Chelsea Choi’s blog– SAY ELLO TO THE NEW KID ON THE BLOCK

After reading the post about a new public media, Ello, I start to think about the different social medium around the world and their privacy policies. Actually, people who like to use social network to communicate with each other are more focusing on their own privacies because they want to use fictitious names to express their ideas online. Therefore, they do not want to offer too much personal information to the public medium and worry about the problem of privacy disclosure. Facebook, one of the most popular social networks among teenagers, not only tracks and sells users’ online activity to the third party, but it also asks players to use their real identities. This new regulation increases users worry and finally loses customers. Furthermore, similar to Facebook, Wechat was also set up a brand-new policy that asked users to sign in with their real identities, which increased the complexity of application and left users feeling exposed. So I think this kind of policy should be stopped if they want to keep the amount of users.
Nowadays, many swindlers use special ways to get customers’ information, such as name or phone number, from some social medium and then send fraudulent messages to these customers to ask money. Even though most of the individuals do not believe in these messages, some people, especially older people, will believe it and send money to the swindlers. Thus, it is really important for social networks to make sure that they will not disclose any personal information about their customers and set up an integrated and safety privacy policy.
