Comments on external blog from JACKIE HUBA

In the blog, Jackie Huba shares some important ideas, which she got from Lady Gaga. During the interview, Gaga talked about how she has been treated by the media when her first two albums released and because of her special style, many critics could not accept her songs and created negative comments. However, Lady Gaga did not give up. She said that she regarded her own music as art and wrote music for her fans, who enjoyed her songs, instead of those critics. This is also the advice that Gaga offered to Jackie Huba. “Keep unleashing your creativity on the world. Some things will appeal and some won’t. Stay true to your passion and don’t give up. It will be the legacy of your work that you will be able to look back on.” I find this blog is really interesting not only because I am also a fan of Lady Gaga, but also because Jackie applied Lady Gaga’s advice in a real business world.
From what Jackie wrote, I understood that businesspeople should create different ideas and fight for making them become true. Often, when someone disagrees and offers opposite view toward your idea or plan, most people will start to self-doubt and hesitate to continue following through. As a result, they will give up their own ideas and follow others’ plans. In fact, the decision of giving up should not be existed in businesspeople’s minds. When they create a new idea or plan, they should believe in their passions and keep on realizing plans. Therefore, this blog is useful for me because it teaches what should a businesspeople need to do if he or she wants to become successful.

How to be a good leader?

There are so many leaders who lack of ability to manage their staff. They actually have no ideas about how to manage a company and how to set up relationship with their employees. In fact, it’s not their faults to be ignorance on leading team because some of the workers are promoted into leaders by their extraordinary accomplishments; however, being a good manager asks individual has enough knowledge about management instead of their original specific skills, which means that they have to change their way to do things in order to adapt to the new job. This is not an easy work to do. Managers have to alter their minds and always experience tough problems. For example, from the news, the author mentions that the “accomplishment defines differently,” and leaders’ job satisfactions “become more vicarious and intangible.” As a good leader, one should understand clearly about his or her responsibility — encourages members to finish work efficiently and praise their accomplishments at the same time. Actually, managers’ satisfactions come from seeing their employees “grow and develop” that leads to the success of the whole company rather than their own achievements.
This idea is definitely right. The responsibility of a leader and an employee is totally different. Employee just needs to develop a specific skill and finish own part of work as good as possible. Leaders have to figure out solutions for many long-term issues and develop ways to improve the total ability of staff. They should remember that the resources they have is their workers and the best way to solve problems of relationship is communication.

External Factors impact on BC Hydro’s Business model

images-2 First nation Government strongly rejected the Site C hydroelectric megaproject from BC Hydro company due to the fact that the fist nation leaders believed that this project would cause environmental issues, such as destroying farmland and wildlife habitat. Also, they claimed that constructing and operating a dam and 1,100-megawatt hydroelectric generating station on the Peace River would create negative impacts on fishing opportunities. In general, First Nation were more care about their aboriginal utilities and focused on their governs on natural resources. All these environmental or social factors threaten the megaproject of BC Hydro Company.
Actually, these problems can all be solved. For example, for environmental factors, BC Hydro can advance its technology in order to avoid the possibilities to destroy farmland or wildlife habitat. Furthermore, they can communicate with the First Nation Group and try to set up relationship with them, which means understanding what Fist Nation really wants and satisfying their needs. As an example, because first nation is worrying that the dam may cause flooding and “impair their right to fish, hunt and use the area for ceremony purposes,” the company can contribute a part of profits to native people as compensations but require them to refuse other companies to set up dam in their region. Through this kind of negotiation, the company can get comparative advantage and build barriers to entry at the same time.
