If the United Nations was fully funded why would we need the Arc or social enterprise?

It is the fact that the fund contributed by the United Nations helped many people improve their living conditions but it did not solve the problems fundamentally. Arc and social enterprises are organizations that also assist to solve social problems but they are different from United Nations.

Even though the United Nations donated fund to help poor people, it just solved the problems in a short-term. People need other social organizations, such as Arc or social enterprise, to help them understand how to change themselves for getting better quality of lives. The goals of the United Nations and either Arc or social enterprise are not the same.images-4

Social Enterprises tackle intractable social issues in the world and we can find them in all sorts of system, whether nonprofit or for-profit companies. Compared with the United Nations, social enterprise aims at eliminating all social problems and transforming the world. Social entrepreneurs use inspirational ways to encourage those people who need help and find opportunities to create social value. They focus on the final results of their actions, look forward to improving the whole social system and bring strongly positive impact in the world.

In addition, different from the United Nations, who just offered financial supports to poor individuals, Arc Initiative works toward creating various programs that build business management and leadership capacity in different areas, including South Africa and Ethiopia. Arc Initiative set up many workshop in developing countries and teach participants the most popular business skills, tools and strategies. With the help of Arc Initiative, people living in developing countries can get business education, including how to manage your money, how to run on a business and how to employ staff, and are able to assess to the business world. Arc Initiative not only provides chances for people to strengthen their business knowledge, but also  help them build better futures.

Comment on student’s blog—“WestJet floats idea of thinner seats, and more of them”

After read the article regarding the new seat plan created by Westjet, I agree with phoebe’s opinion. As an international student who will always need to travel by plane for a long distance, the important factors that I select airline are safety and comfort level. Therefore, I will choose an airline with higher reputation and large legroom.
According to the new plan of Westjet, it will change their seats into newer and thinner seats, which suggests that the total quantity of seats will increase. Actually, it is reasonable for company to make this decision. Due to the fact that when seats become smaller, there will be extra spaces left that allows Westjet to set up additional seats inside the cabin. As a result, with the increasing amount of available seats, more individuals can get the tickets. Finally, the revenue of selling tickets will exceed the costs of installing new seats so the company will definitely earning more profits. This logical reasoning seems right for a profit maximizing company; however, for passengers, it totally makes no sense. As I mentioned before, most passengers have the same idea with me. They hope their seats have a lot of space, contributing to reducing fatigue for the trip. Thus, when the seats become thinner in Westjet planes, passengers may change into other airlines because Westjet can not satisfy their needs any more.
Consequently, I agree with phoebe’s point of view on the seat changing plan of Westjet. Although this plan may help the company gain more profit in short-period, in long-term, company fails to promote customer retention
so the total profits will decline again.

Five ways to help Tesco revive its fortunes

As one of the biggest supermarkets in the world, Tesco is facing financial problems right now. According to the news, the company found that profits have been overstated and at the same time, shopping habits  were changed, which caused the decreasing of demand.  To solve these problems, there are five suggestions that experts offered to Tesco.

All five suggestions are really useful for the company because they all mention basic problems that Tesco has right now and give some good advices to solve them directly. Although these suggestions are different, they all have a same idea: it is important for Tesco to change its marketing strategy and to expand its targeted customers. For example, in the first and third suggestion, which are revamp out-of-town superstores and increase national prices, both experts believe that Tesco should expand its markets and also customer segmentations. I think this suggestion is really useful because the competitions in the industry is intense. Many discounters and convenience stores sell the same products in lower price and as a result, many customers are willing to buy items in these stores instead of supermarkets. Therefore, Tesco has to divide its customer segmentations into two main groups. The first one is people who want to buy bulk of goods in supermarkets and another one is a group that consists of customers who look for buying lower-priced food. Only in this way can Tesco reduce buyer power and attract more consumers.

Other recommendations target to other areas, in the last advice about restoring the trust of shareholders. The expert mainly focuses on management aspect and encourages the company to satisfy shareholders for making sure that these investors won’t distrust the company.
