Une des grandes nouveautés dans notre matériel, c’est la tente de
forage. Le carottier lui meme fait Presque 5m de haut, et ce n’est pas
facile de trouver une tente assez grande pour lui. Souvent, on fait un
trou dans le toit de la tente. Cette fois ci, on a découvert un nouveau
type de tente: une tente gonflable. Mais on ne sait pas trop comment
elle va tenir au vent, et justement, notre site d’étude est très
venteux. On a donc installé la tente pour la tester, et on l’a laissée
dehors toute la nuit. Malheureusement, un des pilliers s’est dégonflé,
mais on a appris des choses sur comment la monter plus efficacement. Et
surtout, on s’est rendu compte qu’il allait falloir la protéger du vent
par un mur de neige. Un mur de 5m de haut, ca fait beaucoup, mais il
faut trouver la meilleure méthode, sachant qu’un mur va aussi génerer
des congères (de l’accumulation de neige). Il nous faut encore réfléchir
un peu à l’organisation des différents élements de notre camp.

The newest piece of gear we have is the drilling tent. The drill itself
is close to 5m tall, and it’s not easy to find a tent that is big enough
for it. Often time, we buy a tent, but then need to make a hole in the
roof for the drill that sticks out. This time, we found a new type of
tent: a tent that we blow like a kitesurf wing. Only we don’t know how
well it will handle in the wind, and we are going to a very windy place.
So yesterday, we installed the tent to see how well it would fare
through the night. Unfortunately, this morning, one of the legs was
flat, but we learned how to set it up more efficiently, and we also
figured out that we needed to protect it from the wind with a wall. A 5m
wall would be really huge, attracting snow drifts, and we still need to
think about the best set up for our camp.
