Ce matin, le soleil est de retour, et avec lui des temperatures
estivales: il fait 0°C, et la neige fond! Le moment est finalement
arrive pour que le raid log, le raid logistique qui assure le transport
de fioul et de matériel à la station Concordia (Dome C), va pouvoir
partir. C’est l’effervescence des derniers préparatifs. Tout le monde
monte sur D10, un plateau où sont places toutes les caravannes, pour
assister au depart du raid. On leur monte la nourriture fraiche, stockée
au dernier moment, on fait une photo de groupe, puis chacun retourne
dans son tracteur et c’est le depart. Si tout va bien, nous suivrons
bientot, avec notre raid science, donc on voit ici un avant gout de ce
qui nous attend.
Le beau temps ammène aussi des rotations helicopter qui nous apportent
de la nourriture fraiche. Maintenant, il faut ranger tout ce stock de
nourriture pour 3 mois!
On continue de tout tester, ranger, sangler. Les mécaniciens, après
avoir mis en condition les tracteurs du raid log, s’occupent des notres.
Il faut faire la vidange des groupes electrogenes, graisser tous les
roulements. C’est du travail!
Today, the sun is back, and it feels like summer. Temperature reached
0°C and the snow has started to melt. It’s time for the logistics raid
to get going with supplies for the Dome C inland station. The whole crew
is busy with the final preparations. We all get to D10, where there is a
flat area to combine all of the sledges together in two long trains. We
bring the food to them at the last minute, do a group photo, and
everyone gets to their own tractor for the departure. If everything goes
well, it will be our turn tomorrow!
The fair weather also allows the helicopter to fly, and it brings us
fresh food. We stock up all the food we will need for the next 3 months.
Most will be stored in our freezer container, and some limited supplies
of veggetables come straight to the kitchen.
Next we check, store and latch everything securely. The mechanics, now
free from working on the logistics raid trucks, start working on ours.
They must chain the oil of engines and generators, oil every single
bearing on every single sledge, it’s a lot of work!
