Meeting Facilitators: Dr. Meghan Corella, Sadia Shad, and Anastasia Zhuravleva
In this online meeting of the LLED Antiracist Caucuses (IBPOC/Racialized caucus and White caucus), we will discuss sleep & rest, white supremacy, and other intersecting systems of oppression.
Stimulus Text: Please read/view the following materials before our meeting on March 1st from 12:00-1:30 PM:
- Preface to Tricia Hersey’s Rest is Resistance: A Manifesto (approx. 5-min read).
- 21:00-30:46 of Between the Lines: Rest is Resistance by Tricia Hersey (10 mins)
Optional stimulus texts:
- Being underslept and out-of-sync is a political injustice by Johnathan White (approx. 15-min read).
Discussion Questions:
- How do you think the legacies of exhaustion Hersey discusses, the circadian injustices White discusses, and/or various intersecting systems of oppression have shaped how you see sleep and rest? How have they shaped how much (or how little) sleep and rest you and those around you get?
- What are some things we can do as individuals and with others (in LLED, in our field, in academia more broadly, and in our other communities) to help address these legacies and injustices?
