Meeting Facilitators: Dr. Anwar Ahmed, Sadia Shad, and Anastasia Zhuravleva
In this meeting of the LLED Antiracist Caucuses (IBPOC/Racialized caucus and White caucus), we will discuss the intersections of decolonization and antiracism, particularly as they relate to our work as language and literacy educators and researchers.
Stimulus Texts: Please read the following paper before our meeting on November 28th from 12:00-1:30 PM.
- Paper (approx. 25-min read): Ho, Y. C. J. (2022). Aligning Anti-Racism Efforts with Decolonization: Reflections from Organizing in Vancouver’s Chinatown.
Optional stimulus text:
- Video (12:01): Quetzala Carson. Pedagogy of the Decolonizing.
Discussion Questions:
- How do decolonization and antiracism intersect?
- How can we (learn to) decolonize our struggles for antiracism?
- Being able to communicate in one’s mother tongue emboldens people to share lived experiences and place-based knowledge (Ho, 2022). As language teachers and language education researchers, what can we do to support various language-centric approaches to decolonization and antiracism?
