These include maintenance of biological and genetic diversity of forest ecosystems and thus the basis for most other functions. There are two main regulating services: refigium and nursery function. The followings are descriptions of supporting services from forest ecosystems.<\/p>\n<table class=\"table\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Functions<\/td>\n<td>Ecosystem processes and components<\/td>\n<td>Goods and services (examples)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Refugium function<\/td>\n<td>Suitable living space for wild plants and animals<\/td>\n<td>Maintenance of commercially harvested timber species<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Nursery function<\/td>\n<td>Suitable reproduction habitat<\/td>\n<td>Hunting, gathering of fish, game, fruits, etc. and small-scale subsistence farming &amp; agroforestry activities by local people<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Cultural services are the \u201cnon-material benefits people obtain from ecosystems through spiritual enrichment, cognitive development, reflection, recreation, and aesthetic experiences\u201d. Many cultural services are associated with human activities that are\u00a0carried out in a given forest area.
