{"id":3756,"date":"2021-03-23T12:50:20","date_gmt":"2021-03-23T19:50:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/aphasiaprogram\/?page_id=3756"},"modified":"2021-10-06T15:23:06","modified_gmt":"2021-10-06T22:23:06","slug":"who-we-are","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/aphasiaprogram\/who-we-are\/","title":{"rendered":"Who We Are"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Aphasia Mentors Program is a community-based program, providing opportunities for PWA in the community to participate in the education of BC\u2019s future healthcare professionals.<\/p>\n<p>The UBC SASS Aphasia Mentoring Program began in 2010 after many community members with aphasia and their families expressed a desire for collaboration with SASS. An advisory board was established, focus groups were held, and the Aphasia Mentoring Program officially began as a pilot project in September 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The program runs over 3 Terms:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>September \u2013 December;<\/li>\n<li>January \u2013 April;<\/li>\n<li>May \u2013 June.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Approximately 22 people with aphasia (PWA) attend the program weekly, supporting the growth and learning of the School of Audiology and Speech Sciences\u2019 SLP and Audiology students.<\/p>\n<p>Following introductions and announcements, the large group divides into the three small groups, based on interests. The themes of these smaller conversation groups rotate each term.
