RE: Work or Everything Else?

This post is in response to Sean Lister’s blog:

The article Sean responded to discusses the fact that Canadians today are working more than ever before, and it is taking a toll on the mental health of employees. This stress can have a drastic impact on family life at home, cutting into leisure and/or time with children.

To resolve this issue, management must take a step backwards and increase hour flexibility. This has show to have a direct correlation with employee productivity, generally assumed to have been caused by an increase in job satisfaction. Not only that, but productivity, which is trying to be maximized through these more plentiful and strict hours, is actually decreasing. This decrease is due to stressed, overwhelmed, sleep-deprived employees.

This blog post also relates closely with attending school, not limited specifically to employees. Students feel these symptoms as well, and it is important for both the instructor and the student to be realistic in their demands.
