Collages

Materials:

  • magazines
  • glue sticks
  • large posters

Here students were placed into colour groups and asked to gather (rip and/or cut) anything they can find from magazines that were in their colour. For us, we were the Green Team, so we gathered all things green.

Once we had gathered everything, we put them into order by gradient. Prompt: “If everything was black and white, where would they sit? Put everything from darkest to lightest.”

Then, a theme was set, and the theme given to us was “Underwater”. All groups had to create an “underwater” image out of the green paper pieces, or something related to the underwater theme. Then, glue it down.

This activity can be done with any theme. It also demonstrates how an image can be created with a “single” colour of different gradients or tints, and the results are wonderful.
