Papier Mâché
Paper mâché can be done over-top of almost anything, so long as the paper mâché strips can lay flat onto the object. Often in elementary school, paper mâché is made over a balloon, like we have done here.
Materials:
- Elmer’s art paste (mixed with water, each container makes 4 quarts of paste)
- Newspaper strips (one grain naturally rips into strips, one does not. Find the rip-able one, and make about 1.5 inch wide strips.)
- Balloon (or other structure)
- Paper – twisted together for the balloon to stand on.
Ideas:
- faces (on balloons)
- masks
- animals (penguin, turtle, etc.)
- pencil holder
- bowls (not for food)
- globe
- maraca
- decorations, ornaments
Once dried, the paper mâché can be painted on.
Or, a collage can be created on it as the decoration. (In this case, it doesn’t need to wait until dried.)
