The week\u2019s events will feature students, scholars, and community members reflecting on multilingualism as a practice, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arts.ubc.ca\/events\/event\/arts-career-conversations-the-art-of-multilingual-careers\/\">discussing career opportunities for multilingual graduates<\/a>, and performing multilingualism through artistic means.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The week of events will open with a <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSex1uKl39t2cERsEZnh1WL1_2veMFgfJGNUiSfPVzk_2YYmhw\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">roundtable on \u201cWhy we study languages&#8221;<\/a> with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/asia.ubc.ca\/profile\/stefania-burk\/\">Associate Dean Stefania Burk<\/a> in conversation with faculty members from across the language disciplines. Then <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/artsmultilingualweek\/schedule\/\">Arts Multilingual Week programming<\/a> explodes with five days of programming that include three exciting student-centred events:\u00a0an <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSeIT1xMYue1jdRTWJOmcRdmReZS_d1MPkqfvKmmSqKik3uB4Q\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">exhibition of untranslatable words and idioms, a Speech Contest on \u201cWhat Multilingualism means to me&#8230;\u201d<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScJOpDPnHMtXZgg5MgYLbJRCBB6caZ9fju1jUktP290zl-1RA\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">Multilingual Poetry Slam<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>In addition to <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSfaXaEHjo-QhWms_VL4wNeEddgnqW6HyEdKTGXFY97Qlwh7qA\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">Lightning Talks on Multilingual Pedagogies<\/a> and various events on Multilingualism in <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSc-bLYfrnmifR4lTrXk8dt1eHr2wQGIGCH0qdplbp1Cv-5Htg\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">teaching<\/a>, research, and <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSc-279carreWnzqpj0vey9_NbGsWafxCtBegk9YIJEBHEyc4w\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">community practice<\/a>, Arts Multilingual Week will also feature conversations on <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdPKfHXbgXtuqzLl0EkT7TaANZoeUe1vW6PaH-hWDPPXEaH7w\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">Indigenous languages and the Indigenous Atlas of Canada<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScHS_TvKeFStqFOqrV-OZqe8dipnrjTJXndb6ABOwvyy5OMSg\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">Indigenizing language programs<\/a>, a virtual <a href=\"https:\/\/ubc.zoom.us\/meeting\/register\/u5wuce6rrTwpH9YMyr_0JwT05ZO18VM_ai7D\">American Sign Language (ASL) workshop,<\/a> an introduction to <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSfS9m7myP_xsEaPkiVSCiLtXDrceNIy11hAvSuzMzgzmnUTJw\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">DeafBlind Protactile Communication,<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdOKpBhyexSYEgPoP2sZALZU9GF_VAtmROAJJfeAqGaAw1V0Q\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">presentation on the Deaf community and the marginalization of signed languages<\/a> by\u00a0local celebrity and UBC instructor\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.ubc.ca\/2020\/09\/08\/nigel-howard-ubc-asl-courses\/\">Nigel Howard<\/a>\u00a0as well as a <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdDYshE6Ixzpal8C-1kyi2FWxitK01UXkR574iRM-hGUPOdDw\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">Bollywood Film Night with Popcorn and Pakora<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Finally, <a href=\"https:\/\/lled.educ.ubc.ca\/profiles\/guofang-li\/\">Dr. Guofang Li<\/a>, UBC Professor and Canada Research Chair in Transnational\/Global Perspectives of Language and Literacy Education of Children and Youth from the Department of Language and Literacy Education will give a keynote entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSf5hqvz0y3hnHmHKTJQ9x3ve-0ZECKNzNeWKRncVtBsLuBVNg\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">&#8220;Multilingualism as a Gift: Changing Mindsets, Changing Worlds&#8221;<\/a>; Indigenous comics artist\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tundrawizard.com\/\">Cole Pauls<\/a>\u00a0will present his work on <a href=\"https:\/\/ubc.zoom.us\/meeting\/register\/u5clc-CtrzwrEtOnt-GHje74qPsFnsio4QcH\">Indigenous language revitalization and his newest comic book Kw\u00e4nd\u01d6r<\/a>;\u00a0and comics scholar\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/katherinekelpstebbins.com\/\">Katherine Kelp-Stebbins<\/a>\u00a0will present research from her new book\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ohiostatepress.org\/books\/titles\/9780814215043.html\">How Comics Travel: Publication, Translation, Radical Literacies\u00a0(2022)<\/a> in a talk entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/ubc.zoom.us\/meeting\/register\/u5Utd-GgqD8uE9MQFnOYCsMQo3BJOC5GctWn\">&#8220;Multilingualism in Comics from Haida Gwaii to Beirut.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>For more information on programming, please see our <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/artsmultilingualweek\/schedule\/\">program schedule<\/a>.<\/b><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Events will take place in Dodson (room 302) in the <a href=\"https:\/\/ikblc.ubc.ca\/\">Irving K.
