About Me

My name is Ashley and I am currently a teacher candidate at UBC. I graduated in 2010 from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science degree. The purpose of this blog is to use it as a space to share my ideas and experiences that are relevant to my journey into teaching. I have always been passionate about teaching and believe education is the pathway for success and the tool that creates better citizens.

My teaching philosophy is embedded in three simple words: educate, motivate, and inspire. To achieve all three, I believe in building a sense of community in the classroom where students are able develop positive relationships with their teachers and peers. All students are capable of learning and by creating this type of environment, students will feel comfortable and be willing to contribute by sharing and gaining knowledge. It is also important to allow students to work with authentic problems that require them to draw on their own experiences. By allowing them to make connections with the real world, we are not only motivating students, but also empowering them to take charge of their own education.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
