We brought our Magic Mirror, which showcased a list of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/guides.library.ubc.ca\/scilit16\/facultygreatreads\">Great Science Reads<\/a> contributed by UBC Faculty.\u00a0Meanwhile, we filled the RAD with 100 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/review\/list\/56241443-asis-t-ubc?shelf=science-fiction\">Science Fiction<\/a> and 100 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/review\/list\/56241443-asis-t-ubc?shelf=popular-science\">Non-Fiction Science<\/a> recommendations of our own.<\/p>\n<p>Many thanks to Sally Taylor and the other event organizers for inviting us to participate!<\/p>\n<h3>Experimenting at &#8220;Library Test Kitchen&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p>Back in September, a faculty member passed on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simmons.edu\/news\/school-of-library-and-information-science\/2016\/august\/library-test-kitchen-2016\">this article<\/a> about a course called &#8220;Library Test Kitchen&#8221; at Simmons College. We decided to start up an informal, bi-weekly drop-in event of the same name. Our hope is that creating a regular space for experimentation and collaboration will encourage us and our fellow students get comfortable with technology outside of class. Here&#8217;s a sample of what people have been up to so far:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Collaborating with a community library as they migrate their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.koha.org\/\">Koha<\/a>-based catalogue<\/li>\n<li>Harvesting metadata from UBC&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/open.library.ubc.ca\/\">Open Collections<\/a> using its <a href=\"https:\/\/open.library.ubc.ca\/research\">API<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Talking about linked data while creating ontologies in <a href=\"http:\/\/protege.stanford.edu\/\">Prot\u00e9g\u00e9<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Coloring + eating snacks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Have something you want to learn or a tool you want to test drive? Let us know!<\/p>\n<h3>Sound interesting?<\/h3>\n<p>Test Kitchen #3 will be <b>Tuesday, November 15 from 5-7pm<\/b>. This time, we&#8217;ll be in the shiny new <b>Pod Room<\/b>, a mysterious glass box of a room that appeared in the corner of the SLAIS computer lab after a summer of renovations.
