Response to Amy’s “The World of Graphic Narratives and Comics”

While scrolling through many impressive old blogs, I came upon Amy’s latest instalment which instantly grabbed my attention mainly due to the colourful comic images. In this post Amy discusses the topic of graphic narratives and introduces a few intriguing comics similar to Persepolis. Personally, I enjoyed this post (and wished I had done one similar) because since being introduced to the comic genre I’ve been considering reading more graphic novels and familiarizing myself with different author/illustrators. I find it a fascinating method for authors to tell important stories through the relaxed structure of text combined with complicated illustrations. As Amy addresses in her post, we discussed a few other comics similar to Persepolis in class; one being Maus. Maus is definitely a novel that I look forward to reading because like Persepolis it appears to give an inside story within a historical moment. Amy also shared another interesting narrative in her post called Watchmen which judging off Amy’s description sounds like it has an interesting dynamic of characters accompanied by a cool storyline. I look forward to checking these comics out and hopefully I can fully submerge myself in the genre. Thanks to Amy for sharing!
