CONCLUSION

Based on the scientific evidence available, there is a strong indication that fish, including salmon, can feel pain. We can say with confidence that salmon farmers need to consider how their practices may hurt salmon, for the current evidence does indicate that fish can feel pain. Proving that salmon have the ability to feel pain drives the welfare movement for farmed salmon forward. Animal activists are now justified to push for improving welfare on salmon farms based on the criterion “freedom from pain”.
