Week 3-4 Reflection

I can’t quite believe the time has gone by so quickly. It seems like yesterday that I arrived at this school and Spring break seemed to be eons away. I just finished my mid-point self evaluation, so this seemed like an appropriate time to complete a written reflection. I feel that I am really becoming my student’s teacher, and they are actually seeing me as their teacher. I still giggle a little bit inside when being called “Ms. Barber” though.

I would love to work on my personal organization. I love being organized completely. It makes me feel so calm and collected inside, the only hinderance is that it takes so much time. There are some things in my classroom I have been putting off as well. For starters, I would love my students to fill out a self-evaluation that I give feedback to. I think it’s important for them to reflect on how they are doing at this point. I think that would also be a good reflection for me as well. The other point I would like to work on is my IEP and ELL consideration. One of my IEP students have cerebral palsy, and needs an alternative curriculum in the foods class. She is doing well currently, and we do verbal check-ins with each other at the end of each class. However I want her to get the most out of my class as possible. If she can take away new skills and knowledge from this class that would help her in her future, she could feel as if she finally accomplished something on her own. I also want to take extra care to make sure my ELL students aren’t getting lost in a whirl-wind of words they can’t understand. I’ve been in this situation many times myself and it continues to be uncomfortable.

Here are my points of “growth” that I would like to see improved:

  1. I would like to see assessment and self-reflection take a front seat in my classroom.
  2. I would like to give my students feed-back and have them grow from that feedback.
  3. I would like to create an alternative or modified curriculum for my IEP and ELL students
  4. I would like to focus on language and spelling as well as content when marking my students work.
  5. I would like to keep my records, books, marks, lesson plans, and classroom more organized and running so smooth there no hiccups that are in my control.
  6. I would like to keep my students engaged and excited about the content they are learning.

Emily Barber teacher candidate extraordinaire over and out until after Spring Break (yess….)
