English 301 sets out to strengthen one’s written and online communication in business and professional activities. The course has both a theoretical as well as a practical component. We will be studying the principles and theories behind writing, while completing different assignments, giving us the opportunity to practice and perfect our writing techniques. These assignments include proposals, reports, abstracts, emails, texts, networking as well as Web Folio.
While this is an online course and we will be expected to work independently, we will also have the opportunity to collaborate with our writing team members. Through peer reviews and productive feedback, we will be encouraged and supported to reflect on our writing and improve upon our self-editing skills. Since this is an online course, it is important that you remain up to date and caught up on the weekly reading and assignments. This class will also utilize a Facebook group, providing a quick and simple way to reach out to our classmates.
As a fourth year student completing her degree this summer, the tools and experiences this course will provide for me will be extremely beneficial as I begin applying for new jobs and then carry forward to my new professional life. We are living in an era where communication has made a huge shift towards instant written communication, text messages and emails have replaced more formal methods of communication previously used.
What I hope to get out of English 301 is to learn and understand what is appropriate and the proper techniques to use in my professional writing for this day in age. This course will provide for me crucial information I will immediately use, the resume and LinkedIn profile are two of the components of this course I am most excited about. Whether you are a pro writer, or you struggle to get your point across in words, I believe this course will be extremely beneficial to you.
