{"id":329,"date":"2013-11-02T14:07:38","date_gmt":"2013-11-02T21:07:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/bclacla\/?p=329"},"modified":"2013-11-07T11:10:43","modified_gmt":"2013-11-07T19:10:43","slug":"alcuin-society-slais-used-book-crawl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/bclacla\/2013\/11\/02\/alcuin-society-slais-used-book-crawl\/","title":{"rendered":"Alcuin Society SLAIS Used Book Crawl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Please accept our cordial invitation to join fellow SLAIS old book enthusiasts for an afternoon of dusty shelves in downtown Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll drop by some of the best book shops in the city and hear a few words from two knowledgeable Alcuin-ists: Dr. Shelley Gruendler (mega awesome typographer, designer and founding director of TypeCamp) and Dr. Richard Hopkins (esteemed SLAIS Professor Emeritus and bookseller with Hourglass Books).<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ll give informal notes on the underworld of books, bookselling and design, you\u2019ll have a chance to scoop up some trusty tomes, and we\u2019ll all retire to either the Irish Heather or Shebeen for a pint or a glass of whisky and compare our finds. Sound good?<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll make three stops in the following order:<br \/>\nMacLeod\u2019s Books (455 W Pender St)<br \/>\nCriterion Books (434 W Pender St)<br \/>\nThe Paper Hound (344 W Pender St)<\/p>\n<p>When: <strong>Sunday November 17, 2014, 3:00-6:00pm(ish)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll meet first at 3:00 outside of MacLeod\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Please give a quick email to Grant at <a href=\"mailto:gehurley@mta.ca\">gehurley@mta.ca<\/a> to RSVP so we can let the booksellers know how many are coming!
