Our presenters addressed a wide range of themes, including gender studies, indigenous narratives, immigrant and minority narratives, and diversity in library services and collections. Dr. Naomi Hamer and Dr. Renee Hill were our keynote speakers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/macl2020.sites.olt.ubc.ca\/files\/2021\/02\/Program_MACL_Conference_2016.pdf\">Program<\/a> |<a href=\"http:\/\/macl2020.sites.olt.ubc.ca\/files\/2021\/02\/CFP-2016.pdf\">CFP<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>2014<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-59 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/reimaginingtomorrow2023\/files\/2023\/01\/covers-2014-234x300-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"234\" height=\"300\" \/><\/h2>\n<p>\u201ci Will Be Myself\u201d: Identity in Children\u2019s Literature, Media and Culture<\/p>\n<p>Our 2014 conference explored, questioned, and analyzed the issues surrounding identity in various elements of children\u2019s and young adult literature, with a multimodal approach to children\u2019s media. Across novels, films, apps, picturebooks, we examined themes of identity, which can include liminality, hybridity, Otherness or Othering, gender, and transformation. We were very honoured to welcome Phillip Serrato as our keynote speaker.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/macl2020.sites.olt.ubc.ca\/files\/2021\/02\/Program_MACL_Conference_2014.pdf\">Program<\/a> | <a href=\"http:\/\/macl2020.sites.olt.ubc.ca\/files\/2021\/02\/Poster-2014.pdf\">Poster<\/a> | <a href=\"http:\/\/macl2020.sites.olt.ubc.ca\/files\/2021\/02\/CFP-2014.pdf\">CFP<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>2012<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-60 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/reimaginingtomorrow2023\/files\/2023\/01\/covers-2012-234x300-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"234\" height=\"300\" \/><\/h2>\n<p>Stranger in a Strange Land: Exploring Texts and media for Young People Across Cultures and Continents<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStranger in a Strange Land\u201d was a one-day children\u2019s literature conference exploring a diverse range of themes in literature and other materials for young people. With Sarah Park and Elizabeth Marshall as keynote speakers, this conference explored the many boundaries, physical and non-physical, that affect children\u2019s media.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/macl2020.sites.olt.ubc.ca\/files\/2021\/02\/Program_MACL_Conference_2012.pdf\">Program<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>2010<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-61 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/reimaginingtomorrow2023\/files\/2023\/01\/covers-2010-234x300-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"234\" height=\"300\" \/><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cSecond to the Right and Straight on Till Morning\u201d: Navigating the Narrative Realm(s) of Children\u2019s Texts<\/p>\n<p>The third conference, held in 2010, featured Maria Tatar and Philip Nel as the keynote speakers.
