Hi! Welcome to my ePortfolio. My name is Binal Khakharia. I was born and raised in Tanzania, a beautiful country in East Africa. I completed my schooling till Grade 10 (IGCSE – International General Certificate of Secondary Education) in Dar-es-salaam, then moved to an international boarding school in Bangalore, India to complete the IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate Diploma). Living in the dorms, meeting people from different parts of the world, having access to most of my teachers even after school hours, as well as to a plethora of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to occupy us in the evenings and weekends, was indeed a unique and wonderful experience. After obtaining my IB Diploma, I moved to Vancouver, Canada in 2008 to study Chemistry at the University of British Columbia. Having lived in three very different continents has humbled me and taught me a lot about people, as well as shaped me to be the person I am today. As a student, I have had some pretty amazing teachers who have had a positive and lasting influence on me. This was one of my reasons for returning to UBC to obtain a degree in Education for Secondary years and was pleased to learn that it offered an IB educator program. I am currently a teacher candidate for IB DP and am enjoying every bit of it. More than anything, I want to be able to touch young lives and make a difference, however big or small, like my teachers and mentors have done for me. For more information about my beliefs and practice, please read my Teaching Philosophy.
