Karina’s section is through a bunch of leaves the stem is shown in the lower part of the picture.  The picture shows not only the vascular bundles (clown faces) of the vascular tissue system, but also the pink cells of the ground tissue system.  They are pink because the vacuoles contain anthocyanins.  Great shot Karina!

Leaves ensheath the stem of many grasses. Grasses are monocots so do not have secondary growth (via vascular and cork cambia).
