Juncus Stem Parenchyma

Note how the cells are joined endwise in an intricately branched pattern. The resulting air spaces are common to plants growing in wet areas. Parenchyma tissue which is shaped like stars is called stellate parenchyma. Note the shape of individual cells. A term which is used to describe parenchyma tissue with lots of airspaces is aerenchyma. So, as you can see, there are many ways to describe the parenchyma of Juncus.
