Linum (linen) Stem
Linen is obtained from the fibres of the stem of Linum usitatissimum. This is a stem cross-section showing these fibres. The fibres are not generated from ground tissue and therefore are not considered “sclerenchyma tissue”. Instead, they are called primary phloem fibres because they develop from cells of the primary phloem. They mature after the primary phloem becomes non-functional.
