COMMET OF A BLOG ON QUORA

TITLE: IS IT REALLY TRUE THAT INTELLIGENT PEOPLE TALK LESS

AUTHOR: Mike MendisMichael Dixon

In that blog, both of them are talking about whether intelligent people talk less. And both of them consider that Talkativeness have no business with intelligence. In Mike’s opinion, Talkativeness is associated with extroversion rather than intelligence. People who are intelligence take much of their time thinking rather than talking. Silence for intelligent people means replenlish, however, silence for non-intelligent people means empty. In Michael’s view, listening is much more important than speaking. Listening means gain knowledge, which is intelligent people eager to pursue.

As far as I am concerned, I totally agree with them. Intelligent have no necessary connection with talkativeness. Talkativeness is associated with extroversion. Intelligence initially comes from the case that people are trying their best to figure out whether machines can think. Thus, it is obvious that thinking is combine with intelligence. Talent people do not talk too much, but they do a lot. In a community, thinkers always act as roles of leaders. Most people are eager to follow their idea because they have deep insight. Having high ablity of forecast future event, intelligent leader always play a vital role in the group of people even though they talk not always too much.

TITLE: USA increase availability of visas for Chinese workers and students

Author: ZIJIN LIU

Zijin’s blog is talking about increasing of availability for chinese workers and studens staying at USA. Present Obama claim in APEC that the government plan to extend the chinese students visas to five years, and at the same time, business and tourist visas to ten years. There are about 1.8 million Chinese people visit USA last year. This progress bring lots of revenue for the USA government and provide lots of job opportunities. Also, with the increasing number of students studying in USA, their parents are eager to travel to USA to visit their child, staying as long as they can.

Zijin holds the opinion that this plan seems to benefit the chinese people, but it’s impact is much more than that. USA government gains lots of financial benefits from that procress. And I totally agree with his statement. In these servel years, Chinese economic boom up. And Chinese people become richer than before. With more incomes, most Chinese people start to presue higher life quality. Some of them chose to travel to developed country like USA to experience another life style. And they would like to buy things there because some goods sold in other country might be different and have higher quality. Thus, suppliers in USA will gain much more profit and pay more taxes for government. Also more and more students also bring lots of revenue. Instead of immigrating to USA, their parents could easily visit their children through the ten year tourist visa. Such behaviors could well stimulate consumption in America.

THE SOCIAL ENTERPRISE AND THE ARC INITIATIVE

Social entrepreneurs are a group of people who provide financial aids, health care, education and so on for poor people without hope. They act as important social roles in our community. They have strong insights for the things will happen in the future, and their behaviors occurs faster than their words.

Arc Initiative indicates that some univerity like UBC Sauder school of business build some workshops as bridges in oder to make a connection between knowledge students learn in class and business skills used in the real world. And the reading resource give us two examples of the Arc Initiative, which indicate that some troubling small entrepreneurs work will the current students, handling the problem in the company.

From my prespective, although the United States were fully funded, we still need the social entrepreneurs and Arc Initiative for several reasons. It is important for students to apply the knowledge they learned in the real social life. In this process, the company acquire lots of fresh ideas from the current students. Although those ideas might not mature, they would create some innovations for the current issues. At the same time, social entrepreneurs, who try them best to keep peace of the world, are also important. Governments funding could not cover each corner of financial problems. Social entrepreneurs who are the successful business people with deep insight around the world could compensate those problems from their own special perspectives.

BIG 11-11 SHOPPING FESTIVAL

Yesterday was 11-11 shopping festival in China. Created in 2009, the event was originally launched to tempt single people without partners to console themselves with some retail therapy, spurred on by massive discounts from retailers. Companys always gain lots of sales on that day. This year, Alibaba reached the a new mark at 1:31pm, more than 10 hours earlier than last year. Alibaba’s sales exceed the prediction at $9 billion with 47 minutes left on the stock. It was three times more sales volumns a single day than the three biggest U.S. shopping days combined. Also, with the fast developing of the internet survices, more and more people would like to make the deal online. This year, about 42.6 percent of the $9 billion was deal by the mobile devices.

As a Chinese girl, I am also one of those consumers who make donations to the $9 billion sales. Because it is really convenient for us to get our fond stuffs online. Alibaba also help Chinese people purchase oversee goods and people life abroad like as gain goods product in China. In those transactions, consumers pay less than the price they are willing to pay, which means that their marginal benefit brings the consumer surplus. Also, the large quality of sales increase the producer’s surplus as well. The equilibrium become much bigger on 11-11 than before. However, such discount couldn’t happen every day, because that will eventually bring overproduction and diminishing returns.

Grain farmers produced 27% less than in 2013 and face lower prices

Title: GRAIN FARMERS PRODUCED 27% LESS THAN IN 2013 AND FACE LOWER PRICES

Author: Yang Ying

In Yang Ying’s blog of “grain farmers produced 27% less than in 2013 and face lower prices” , she use the microeconomic theory to provide her prospective of that issue.

In that case, the fluctuation in farm’s output happened because of the atrocious weather condition. As a result, the quantity decrease and the quality become lower. Most comsumers would not chose those low quality crops, and the farmers gain much less profit.

As far as I am concern, the income of farmers has a large impact on the government’s revenue, because farmers pay the taxes for government every year. Also, the crop market is a prefect compatitive market. Therefore, farmers could ask for some technological support from government in oder to reduct the lose. For example, the government could provides forecast about the weather for the whole year. If the weather will be atrocious, the government could suggest farmers invest less in that area and give some financial supports helping them move to other places cultivate. Such behaviors may reduct the loses of farmers as well as government.

Environment Pollution And Economic Inequality

Since the Industrial Revolution, our environment has been in imminent danger. For example, a dramatic summer drought helped public focus their attentions on the greenhouse effect, a general warming of temperature on Earth, which caused by an increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide released by burning fossil fuels like coals, gasoline products and rapid deforestation. Along with the rapid technology advance is the emergence of acid rain, ecological wasteland and natural disasters such as flood and hurricane. Not only to environment, but also to some people changes in today’s seemly progressive world are not always good. The booming America saw a growing economic inequality. In 2004, number of millionaire household in America increased by 14% as the number of people living below the poverty line rose to about 37 million, including 15 million children. The annual budget passed by Congress in 2005 severely cut programs essential to struggling families, including child assistance and medical funding for the poor. Left in such desperate condition, the poor could hardly appreciate these changes. And in these several years, not only the gap between richness and poorness increased, but the gap between those who have gone to college and those who have not also increased.
