{"id":10,"date":"2011-07-21T16:03:55","date_gmt":"2011-07-22T00:03:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/blantonlibr559msummer2010\/?p=10"},"modified":"2011-07-21T16:03:55","modified_gmt":"2011-07-22T00:03:55","slug":"the-social-network-of-things","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/blantonlibr559msummer2010\/2011\/07\/21\/the-social-network-of-things\/","title":{"rendered":"The social network of things"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following along the thread of <em>hyperconnectivity<\/em>, I thought I&#8217;d share this somewhat amusing attempt to convey what life might be like in a world where all of our everyday devices were networked together.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/beyond_the_beyond\/2011\/04\/design-fiction-ericsson-social-web-of-things\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/beyond_the_beyond\/2011\/04\/design-fiction-ericsson-social-web-of-things\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.wired.com\/beyond_the_beyond\/2011\/04\/design-fiction-ericsson-social-web-of-things\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Whimsy (and anthropomorphism aside), I think it&#8217;s dubious to suggest that machines are capable of <em>social <\/em>interaction. But would this kind of hyperconnectivity have an effect on how people interact with social media in general? Would the increasing traffic of interaction with networked machines start to use up some of the networking capacity that people previously used to dedicate to their on-line friends?
