For those who don’t know, James Custom Tailor is actually owned by my father, James Lai (finally see where I got my name from?). Since we’ve been looking at pricing, I’ve decided to look at my dad’s business and see what he does.

Looking at the company objectives, I’m pretty sure my dad’s business is customer oriented. Firstly, “custom” is in the store name and second because all the suits my dad makes is tailored to the customer. This is a definite added value for consumers because when a suit is made custom, it looks a lot better when it fits. My dad makes sure he can achieve this for each person and from what I’ve heard, he always does a good job! I think in terms of competition, my dad is one of the few left that still carry the tailoring skill. Because of that, he is probably able to charge higher prices for his goods and services. But on top of that, there is also a certain prestige pricing to it because it’s not just some suit that is mass produced and then hung on the racks of stores across the country.

If you’re interested, his store is located on 1012 Broadway W, Vancouver. He’s really friendly!
