MEMORANDUM
To: Erika Paterson, ENGL 301 Instructor, University of British Columbia
From: Brendan Chan, ENGL 301 Student, University of British Columbia
Date: June 25, 2021
Subject: Formal Report Progress
As per your request, I am writing to discuss the criteria provided in regards to my formal report.
Intended Audience
The audience of my report will be Chenhan Yang, as well as the other head staff at the Shou-Yu Liang Wushu Taiji Qigong Institute (hereafter shortened to SYL).
Purpose of Report
The purpose of my report is to determine various methods of action that could be taken to help increase attendance at SYL, through offerings of additional classes, or changes in advertisement strategy.
Significance of Report
This report is useful because due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the school has taken a temporary hiatus of in-person activity and instruction. With such a long time period of hiatus due to the length of the pandemic, loss of student participation is a serious concern. Changes in instruction method/and or advertisement strategy could attract new students, as well as bring back old-students who may have otherwise ceased attendance.
Research Plan
My research plan is as follows:
- Identify current market sentiment on key aspects of martial arts classes via anonymous survey
- Identify possible gaps in current teaching strategies through comparison with market sentiment
- Assess current marketing, advertisement, and pricing strategies through interviewing of staff at SYL
- Assess potential costs of new marketing and advertisement strategies through research with advertisers
- Identify possible conflicts due to COVID-19 restriction policies by assessing current school location and size
