Sans tube!

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/offbeat/2010/10/27/moos.tubeless.toilet.paper.cnn?iref=allsearch

Consumers biggest worry is what will happen to the scrap of toilet paper at the end of the roll that has nothing to stick to! Well it seems Scott has figure out a process that  is “top secret”.

I think this is a great idea especially since studies have shown that people tend NOT to recycle the cardboard tube.  If Scott has a system to get every last morsel of toilet paper then the cardboard roll seems to serve no purpose at all!

Companies who make products that consumers generally view as convenience-goods are still able to find ways of attracting new and different consumers through innovative marketing. Before, I never would have tried Scott because I assumed they weren’t very environmentally friendly but now I have a new opinion and would definitely give this toilet paper a shot!

Too much?

I found this clip on a classmates blog. I really liked Sonal’s blog- it had a pretty cool theme of different companies using innovative and catchy advertisement techniques.

https://blogs.ubc.ca/sonalharia/2010/10/13/from-lays-with-love/

I found this lay’s one particularly cool but also wondered if it was too much…too much time, too much effort, or too much wood for limited number of people that would see it.  The video shows a wooden billboard being hand carved to display how much care goes into Lay’s potato chips.  As a viewer of this video or a viewer that got to see this billboard actually in the process of being carved, it is certainly very effective.  However, the billboard took just 10-days to carve….so what about the million of viewers that saw the billboard after the carving was done? Chances are they would not even notice that billboard was carved from wood.  People will zoom past in their car and probably just think its good graphic design or a cool optical illusion.  So maybe the time and effort put into that billboard was not actually worth it for lays.

Nonetheless,  this video is really cool and sends a good message about lays potato chips. It makes me think if lays put that much time into an advertisement, imagine how much time they put into their potato chips.

THE END OF HALLOWEEN DOES NOT EQUAL CHRISTMAS

it is NOT almost christmas so please put the gift wrap and artificial christmas trees away!  let’s wait until the pumpkins have finished rotting before the lights go up!  I think we can make it to the end of november without consuming stupid seasonal crap that hides in the closet for 11/12 months of the year.

it’s kind of like when a sports team wins the championship and everyone rushes out to buy all the memorabilia, knowing very well that in a few weeks they won’t want to wear the stuff anymore.

the best part about christmas is the starbucks christmas cups!

For the love of the game

Go Giant Go!
Ever wonder how, within seconds of winning, the entire team had hats and tshirts that said ‘Giants – 2010 World Series Champ’?
They’re pre-made! The World Series didn’t go to game 7 this year so they didn’t have to make winning memorabilia for both teams but whenever there is a game 7, both teams have winning gear ready to go should they be the victorious ones!
Seems like a waste just so they can hav photo ops with all the gear on.
American Sports have more money than they know what to do with so why not, right?

i do mind the gap

http://www.refinery29.com/we-really-mind-the-gaps-new-logo.php

I found this article about GAP clothing store and their logo redesign.

I don’t shop at GAP but I do understand the issues that this article present with the redesign.  GAP is all about comfortable, long lasting clothing, and not the latest, cutting edge fashion.  There simple logo of a blue square and plain white block writing represented their brand so well.  No frills but gets the job done.

The new logo is trying to be modern but, quite honestly doesn’t do it right!

I think GAP should keep their old logo and just change the font of the white writing.  That says to the consumer “we’re still the same brand we’ve always been but also keeping up with the times”

Short stop

i am definitely not a girl who loves her shopping.  i don’t get relief, excessive joy, therapy or anything of the sort from it! i shop once in a while and a buy enormous amounts! shopping alone is my favourite way to do it because it is the fastest way to do it!  no time wasted telling others how good they look in that pair of jeans…instead i can just go about my own business!

my 2 shopping mottos: “stick to what you know” and “you get what you pay for.”  i shop at the same stores and get the same brands because time and time again i get these items home and i love them. why mess with a good thing?  trying out new stores/brands takes more time and i like my shopping to be efficient! usually i don’t even have to try on what i buy because i know the brand so well. i am willing to pay more for the brands that i buy because i know their useful life to be far superior than their cheaper alternatives. this doesn’t mean i will just spend whatever on an article of clothing but if it something that i know i will love, i’d rather save up the money than buy a cheaper alternative.

in class today Tamar said that brands are a shopping shortcut.  that statement couldn’t describe me more! i know the brands that i like and knowing these brands allows me to be in and out of the shopping mall in a jiffy with a bag full of goods that i love!

Hello world!

i just bought my first mac laptop and i am proud to say that i will never use a PC computer ever again.  i’ve been suckered in by steve jobs and his flawless marketing.

the only problem with my mac laptop is the recurring nightmare i have now where i dump a full cup of coffee all over the keyboard and sparks explode out making sounds as loud as gun shots.

my mac is going to give me insomnia.
