Too much?

I found this clip on a classmates blog. I really liked Sonal’s blog- it had a pretty cool theme of different companies using innovative and catchy advertisement techniques.

I found this lay’s one particularly cool but also wondered if it was too much…too much time, too much effort, or too much wood for limited number of people that would see it.  The video shows a wooden billboard being hand carved to display how much care goes into Lay’s potato chips.  As a viewer of this video or a viewer that got to see this billboard actually in the process of being carved, it is certainly very effective.  However, the billboard took just 10-days to carve….so what about the million of viewers that saw the billboard after the carving was done? Chances are they would not even notice that billboard was carved from wood.  People will zoom past in their car and probably just think its good graphic design or a cool optical illusion.  So maybe the time and effort put into that billboard was not actually worth it for lays.

Nonetheless,  this video is really cool and sends a good message about lays potato chips. It makes me think if lays put that much time into an advertisement, imagine how much time they put into their potato chips.
