You are invited to “Closing the Gap in Pediatric Neurology” to be presented by Scott Ramsey, a candidate for the Assistant Professor Tenure Track position.

You are also invited to “Improving Access and Outcomes: Redesigning Health Services for Individuals with Psychiatric and Substance Use Disorders” to be presented by Angela Russolillo, a candidate for the Assistant Professor Tenure Track position.

The UBC Vancouver School of Nursing is pleased to announce the 55th annual Marion Woodward Lecture, Life, Death, and Data: Imagining Possible Futures for Care Work in an A.I. Era, on Thursday, October 26, 2023.

Dr. Rae Walker joins us to speculate, question, and provoke discussion about care work and nursing’s commitments at a time when big data and A.I. are rapidly escalating against the backdrop of a global pandemic, structural oppressions and a climate emergency. Drawing on principles of design justice, data feminism, community accountability and consentful tech, we critically examine how we arrived at this moment, then turn to imagine new and more liberatory futures for care – of each other, our communities, and our digital bodies.

The aim is to explore students’ experiences with the Self & Collective Care Series to improve future delivery of the program and help improve the experiences of future nursing students completing this series.

Join us for KT Connects on June 23

KT Connects is a series of monthly beginner-level knowledge translation (KT) webinars hosted by Michael Smith Health Research BC and Arthritis Research Canada.

In recent years, co-creation (or co-production) with people with lived experience and care partners has become a prominent aspect of the research landscape and a growing expectation of research funders. There is a lot of variation in the degree to which research teams collaborate with people with lived experience and care partners.

In this session, Dr. Jennifer Baumbusch will share experiences from a co-creation project conducted in long-term care homes. As part of a knowledge-to-action project, family caregivers were integral team members who helped to develop and deliver a workshop series for family members of residents. Jennifer will talk about the successes and lessons learnt in this experience. She will also share strategies for successful co-creation based on this project.

BSN Drop-In Academic Advising – Term 3

Hello BSN Students,

I will again be offering drop-in advising times this term. As the BSN Academic Advisor, I’m available to share information about resources to support you in the School of Nursing and at UBC, to talk about any challenges you may be experiencing during your time in the BSN program, or just to check-in and chat about your experience, future plans, etc.

Beginning Tuesday, May 23rd drop-in advising will be on Tuesdays from noon-1:00 pm in my office, T288 in UBC Hospital.

I will host advising time during the weeks when courses are in session. If this time slot ends up being busy, I’m happy to add more time options.  Feel free to drop by to say hello or with any questions or concerns. You can come individually or with a group of students, either is okay.

Because these are open drop-in hours, if you have a particularly sensitive concern or would like to schedule a longer individual check-in appointment, please continue to email me directly to set up a time to connect. If you are reaching out to set up a 1:1 appointment, it is helpful to include a few days/times that work well for you, and I will do my best to accommodate your schedule. Scheduled advising appointments can be in person or over Zoom.

NCAS and BCCNM Pilot and Field Test 2023 (paid opportunity)

Dear BSN students,

Are you a student or recent grad from an LPN or RN nursing program who’s excited to advance the nursing profession?  Come apply your new nursing skills and help us test the content of a new standardized nursing assessment.

The Nursing Community Assessment Service (NCAS) is looking for the following:

  • Students completing their last practicum in an LPN or RN program
  • Recent graduates from an LPN or RN program

This is a unique opportunity to better understand the development process of a standardized assessment.

The task: You will join a focus group to review and test the content of a bilingual multi-profession nursing exam. Your feedback will help us improve the assessment for future candidates.

Details: This is a paid activity. The work will be completed virtually in May – June 2023. Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset but is not required.

Payment: You will receive a $50 gift card per session. You can participate as many times as you want in our pilot and field tests sessions in May, June, and July 2023.
