Throughout life, most people will encounter challenges and trials. In order to ensure that a person is exposed to “multiple or chronic stressors but is able to function quite well” (Huberty, 2012, p. 345) one must be resilient. Resilience is the ability to maintain, “adaptive functioning despite serious risk hazards” (345). The different factors that make some people more or less resilient than others are a combination of genetic, biological, and environmental variables. Some of these factors are predetermined and cannot be changed, however parents, peers, and teachers will influence many others.
