Overview

To investigate the vulnerable areas of Burns Bog, spatial analysis was conducted in ArcMap through a Multi-Criteria Evaluation (MCE). This method analyses a number of criteria to determine the spatial areas which best meet the criteria. To assess the vulnerability of Burns Bog we looked at 4 different criteria: (1) water table elevation; (2) seasonal variation of the water table; (3) proximity to roads; (4) potential contamination from runoff. The creation of each of these layers is detailed in subsequent pages. To initially prepare the data frame, we set the coordinate system to ‘NAD 1983 UTM Zone 10N’ as this was the coordinate system used in reference to the excel data from Sarah Howie. We then projected all the data to this coordinate system and clipped all the layers to the study site. We then digitized the area of Burns Bog by merging polygons from the vegetation and wetlands layers before creating the input layers for the MCE
