2-week Practicum Highlights

Needless to say that the 2-week practicum has been the busiest and probably the most challenging period of my studying at UBC so far! Yet, it was full of events and unforgettable experiences that I will treasure forever…

I bonded so much with my students over these 2 weeks that I already started thinking that it would be so upsetting to leave them after the 10-week practicum. I’ve also learned and grown so much as both a person and a professional.  I could even say that the teacher candidate who entered the classroom at the beginning of the practicum experience differed so much from the one that left it at the end of it 😉

I am so grateful for having the best mentor-teacher I could possibly have hoped for, the students who are so caring, loving and smart, and who challenge me to be better and for my University advisor who is always there for me no matter what 😉

These are some of the pictures from those AMAZING 2 weeks (it was so busy that I physically was not able to capture ALL of the moments; these are just some of them – enjoy :))

1. I presented my 3-part lesson on seeds for my 2 formal observations. It was a success!

2. I also taught Art and we painted Sunflowers inspired by Vincent Van Gogh. Experimenting with paint was so much fun. We then proudly displayed our artwork on the bulletin board outside the classroom.

3. Thursdays are always special in my practicum class. That’s a day of the week when we all get to go outside for an extended period of time and do lots of experiments and observations 😉

4. My birthday… the day I will never forget, as my students have made it so special 😉

5. On the last day of my practicum experience, we all went to Grouse Mountain to visit the First Nation’s Feast House. What a great way to wrap up the 2-week practicum.

Apart from these experiences, there were many others that were not captured on my camera, such as:

  1. Parent-teacher conferences
  2. Staff meetings
  3. Picnic in the garden
  4. Eco-cafe (workshop on energy sustainability)
  5. School Consultative committee meetings
  6. PHE classes (“Hot Dog Tags” =)) and many-many more…
