We sat down with our client and discussed with them some SMART goals. We came to the conclusion on the following goals:

Short Term Goals (monthly):

Since we are training our football player during the off-season, at this point resistance exercises are our focus instead of sport specific movements. Therefore, for the first 2 months our main goal is to increase muscular endurance. Per month, the exercises will change to maximize neural adaptation to always see progression and improvements. During the 3rd and 4th month our goal is to increase muscular size with hypertrophy. During the 5th month our goal is to increase strength. Since the pre-season will be approaching at this time we will begin to include specific adaptation to imposed demands (SAID) exercises that relate to football. During the 6th month our goal is to focus on power and explosiveness which is directly related to the sport of football. During the 5th and 6th months, since it is pre-season the focus will be moderate on both resistance and sport specific exercises.

Long Term Goals (6 month goal):

Our long term goal is to enhance athletic performance by going through mesocycles that focus on specific demands. By focusing on all aspects of training, our client is meant to see improvements in sport performance and all aspects of sport performance. Aspects of sport performance include strength, speed, power, muscular endurance, explosiveness, and muscle size. All of these aspects are important in the sport of football and by focusing on each individually will help us achieve our ultimate goal of improved athletic performance.
