Lab 2: Introduction to Geographically Weighted Regression

This lab used Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) analysis to investigate the relationship between a child’s language skills and a set of variables which relate to that child’s neighbourhood and their personal abilities. This study was done using the City of Vancouver as a study region. Using data obtained from the UBC Geography department, derived from the Early Development Instrument (EDI) and Census data this analysis was conducted.

Using exploratory regression, OLS regression and GWR the variables were assessed.

Results indicated that income is an essential factor in determining child’s EDI scores on the Eastside of Vancouver, and lone parents are well dispersed throughout the city.
