Cariboo plants a tree for every 12 pack of Cariboo beer that is purchased. This amounts to about 10% of their sales. This is a significant amount for a micro-brewery and this summer they have invested $20,000 in 9 projects throughout BC. In addition, they have sent containers of fresh water to Iran and China after earthquakes, and now partnering with BC ministry of Forest to plant 150,000 more trees.
In the article the CEO states ““We’re not advertising it to sell our product. We’re just saying to people how important the environment is, how important water is.” I do believe that they genuinely care about the environment but I do not believe they are not using the advertising to sell their product. The bottom line for a company is sales , and if they can use sustainable marketing to boost sales they will.
Whether or not the plant a tree program is used to gain consumers, it is still a step in the right direction of improving the environment. So the next time you pick up a twelve pack, consider cariboo.
