{"id":61,"date":"2013-11-07T22:03:49","date_gmt":"2013-11-08T05:03:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/candicechung\/?p=61"},"modified":"2013-11-18T03:32:07","modified_gmt":"2013-11-18T10:32:07","slug":"motivation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/candicechung\/2013\/11\/07\/motivation\/","title":{"rendered":"Motivation!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In today&#8217;s COMM 101 class, we discussed about what motivates employees and touched on the differences between extrinsic and intrinsic motivators. \u00a0The article &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cipd.co.uk\/pm\/peoplemanagement\/b\/weblog\/archive\/2013\/10\/21\/job-satisfaction-beats-bonuses-in-staff-motivation-stakes.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Job satisfaction beats bonuses in staff motivation stakes<\/a>&#8221; shows how intrinsic motivator beats extrinsic motivators. \u00a0According to study, the emotional factors are the strongest motivators in the workplace. \u00a0In a survey answered by over 1,000 workers, 59% of the population put job enjoyment as their top motivator.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/candicechung\/files\/2013\/11\/Employee-Motivation.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/candicechung\/files\/2013\/11\/Employee-Motivation.jpg\" width=\"353\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/candicechung\/files\/2013\/11\/Employee-Motivation.jpg 353w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/candicechung\/files\/2013\/11\/Employee-Motivation-264x300.jpg 264w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 353px) 100vw, 353px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I agree with the fact that intrinsic motivators are what really satisfy the workers. \u00a0I think the pay rate, bonuses, and physical rewards of the job fulfills the basic needs of the employee. \u00a0It will not make the employees unhappy as they no longer need to worry about life essentials. \u00a0However, what truly make them happy are the emotional motivators. \u00a0This could be how well they get along with their colleagues, how well are they treated by their employers, and how much freedom and enjoyment they receive from their work. \u00a0 A successful employer would be able to identify what type of emotional motivators each employee needs and act accordingly. \u00a0Once a team full of happy and satisfied employees are formed in a company, the productivity will increase dramatically, and thus will generate unimaginable profits for the company. \u00a0Therefore, employers should motivate their employees intrinsically with the correct emotional motivator.<\/p>\n<p>(Photo credit: UltimosLibros)<\/p>\n<p>Resource:<\/p>\n<p>Churchard, Claire. &#8220;Job satisfaction beats bonuses in staff motivation stakes &#8211; People Management Magazine Online.&#8221;<i>CIPD<\/i>.
