Canim Forest Services (CFS) is a forest consulting organization consisting of 5 students from the Faculty of Forestry at the University of British Columbia (UBC). this management project presents an invaluable opportunity to apply the collective knowledge in a real world application of each of the students has  The CFS will collaborate with the Canim Lake Indian Band to devise multiple alternative plans addressing the economic, social, and environmental welfare of the  historic land base, while minimizing risks.

The purpose of this management plan is to guide the community members of the Canim Lake Band to sustainably manage their land base while achieving a range of objectives. This management plan:

  • Articulates key features and values of Canim Lake Band, Identifies emerging business  opportunities to help achieve economic independence,
  • Identifies appropriate types and levels of management activities,
  • Establishes a long term vision and management objectives for the land base,
  • Responds to current and projected threats and opportunities by defining a set of management strategies to achieve the management vision and objectives
  • Offers strategies to protect traditional forest resources
  • Promotes conservation of natural resources, ecologically sensitive areas, and culturally significant resources (both biological and non-biological), and
  • Highlights access to resources for cultural, community, and commercial use.
