In Winter 2020, a group of UBC First Year Students took a course that partnered with migrant justice organizations. We learned about Canada’s border politics, and deportation and detention practices for migrants. We also learned about the role of scholarly research in informing juridical decisions about deportations.

There are many applications, including refugee claims, humanitarian and compassionate applications, and pre-removal risk assessments, where migrants will need research to support their claims and to provide evidence of conditions or factors in a country of origin. Because we have access to research databases and archives via UBC Library, our work aims to contribute to the available public knowledge from which migrant advocates can draw.

The posts on this site are our summaries of scholarly research in support of migrant justice, and against deportations.
