The tragedy of the Covid-19 pandemic in Canada’s long-term care system has laid bare the dire need for an alternative approach to traditional care for older adults and people living with dementia. Green Care Farming<\/strong> is a model of care that combines therapeutic farming practices with healthcare services for a variety of vulnerable groups.\u00a0 The farming landscape – the farmyard, woodlands, gardens – serves as the base for healing.<\/p>\n

This online platform is a tool for designers, program directors, and communities to enhance the healing qualities of Green Care landscapes through multi-sensorial and therapeutic design.<\/p>\n

Meredith Wilson is a Master’s of Landscape Architecture student (2023) at the School of Architecture + Landscape Architecture at the University of British Columbia. Watching both her grandmothers suffer from dementia in long term care inspired Meredith to consider alternative models of treatment. Meredith created all of the text and drawings on this website with guidance from her academic advisor Daniel Roehr, and professional advisor Rebekah Churchyard.<\/p>\n

Daniel Roehr<\/a> is Associate Professor at the School of Architecture + Landscape Architecture at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Daniel also leads the\u00a0Green Skins Lab<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Off Screen Studio<\/a>. Daniel has a keen interest in multi-sensorial and inclusive design.<\/p>\n

Rebekah Churchyard is a Psychotherapist, Social Worker and Project Manager who founded Green Care Farms Inc<\/a>. in 2021.
