LMS Site

Getting Started with Moodle

Since I have experienced with using Moodle to supplement face-to-face teaching last year, I have been in love with Moodle. I have always wanted to try creating my own Moodle site from scratch. ETEC 565 gives me the guidance I need to do just that.

I just begin to work on my Science 10 moodle site. Since the teacher’s view is similar to the student’s veiw, it is not difficult to understand this LMS. I was able to quickly “insert label” to create the basic framework for where my content is going to go. Each topic has two dropdown lists: one for “Resources” and one for “Activities”. This makes adding documents, forums, chats and wikis very straight forward.

Adding the different types of forum took me a little longer because I did not realize the options for group or general forum from one of the dropdown lists. The could’ve been prevented if look through every option on the page. Loading of the files can take some time, as each document has to be added to the folders seperately.

So far, as a beginning user of Moodle, I am happy that the process of uploading basic course materials and activites is straight forward.
I am going to spend more time exploring the assessment tools such as setting up quizzes and student grade books!
