ENGL 301 is a course that prepares you for writing in business, professional, and technical contexts. It is a course that teaches you skills that improves your personal portfolio, making it more eye-catching to employers than before.
In this course, we will be engaging with fellow classmates to help improve our professional writing skills. Assignments are generally posted through our blog and website, and the course is split into four major units that focuses on specific topic. These topics include studying general principles, practices, and people, defining terms with an audience in mind, building a resume and job application skills, and developing network strategies. At the same time, steps in writing a professional report will be explored with each unit, and working efficiently in a group is a major part of the course. There are small assignments due weekly, as well as three major projects — all of which will be presented as a portfolio on our websites where our peers will be reviewing.
After the completion of this course, I expect to see major improvements in my professional writing. I also hope to build up more vocabulary to use when typing out professional reports. I have always had trouble deciding which words to use, and I hope by the end of this course, speaking and writing professionally will come to me very naturally.
