BEST WORK

Welcome to my BEST WORKS page!

This page mainly showcases my outstanding work this semester. A brief description and link to each assignment are provided on this page.

Revised Definition Assignment

This assignment required us to create three separate definitions for terms specific to our discipline, including bracket definitions, sentence definitions, and expansion definitions that included at least four expansion strategies. I’ve chosen the current fast-growing energy term “solar PV panel”, which I feel comfortable writing about due to my extensive knowledge of the matter. In the working principle and installation section, I also added pictures for the readers to understand better.

Revised Peer Review of Definition “Direct Air Capture”

This is the first peer-review assignment of the semester, and I collaborated with Han Li on it. The purpose of this assignment is to start learning how to give constructive feedback to others editing their work. The peer-review process is a great learning opportunity for both parties. Han Li chose “Direct Air Capture”, and through her accurate and detailed explanation, I was able to understand what it really means and provided some of my thoughts and suggestions.

Revised Formal Report Proposal and Progress Report with Surveys

A formal report proposal is the start of the ENGL 301 semester project. We need to investigate, analyze, and recommend action on some of the social issues we care about, then generate a proposal and get the professor’s permission to study the topic. The topic of my research is ”

Expediting FSW-inland applications”, and the proposal mainly includes background information on the matter, possible problems and potential solutions, research methodology, the scope of the investigation, and my qualifications to conduct research.

Revised Proposal Memo

This is one of many memos written in this class. This memo is written to Dr. Patterson to provide a summary of the formal report proposal, which includes the background and rationale for the research topic, a problem statement, potential solutions, the scope of the research, my qualifications, and a concluding statement. This memo I wrote was great and was featured on the Instructor Blog by Dr. Patterson as an example.

Revised LinkedIn Best practices memo

Since LinkedIn is the most common platform for businesses and individuals to create professional profiles, this assignment asked us to list ten best practices when creating a LinkedIn profile. Through this assignment, you can have a deeper understanding of the use of LinkedIn, which is a good start for future job hunting.

Revised Memo to Evan Crisp

Unit 3 emphasizes writing with a “you” attitude. This memo to ENGL 301 student Evan Crisp is an introduction to this writing style. Evan’s writing is unprofessional, his tone is casual, and his words are negative. So, we’ve come up with a detailed list of suggestions for his writing.

Revised Complaint letter and Response letter

Writing a complaint letter to a business is an assignment of practicing writing with a “you” attitude. In this assignment, we were tasked with writing a complaint letter and a response letter with a neutral statement about the negative experience. I chose to write a complaint letter to Aritzia after-sales service about a recent unpleasant experience in online shopping. After that, I responded again from the perspective of Aritzia’s after-sales service personnel.

Revised Peer Review of a Formal Report

In this assignment, students are tasked with peer reviewing a teammate’s formal report. The peer-review process is very beneficial for formal reports. I am grateful to Anna Li for reviewing my report as she gave me good advice and focused on many of the details of my article. I was very impressed with Anna’s report, and I really liked her themes, focus on the gender disparities in the Department of Computer Science at UBC.

Revised Formal Report

A formal report is one of the main assignments for the semester. After completing the proposal, survey design, survey distribution and collection, a final formal report was generated for potential readers. The research for this report, which was conducted over several weeks, was written to the immigration minister on proposals to speed up the processing of applications for FSW-inland applicants. Thank you to more than 100 FSW-inland applicants who participated in completing the questionnaire and provided valid data for my report completion.
